Celebrate The Cabins Public Art Installation on Friday, November 26

After several months of behind-the-scenes work and collaboration, the Town of Mountain Village, Mountain Village Owners Assocation and Telluride Arts are excited to announce the official unveiling of The Cabins Public Art Installation.

On Friday, November 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. come see the 11 gondola dining cabins that have been adorned with the art of local and regional artists. The celebration will be held in Mountain Village’s Heritage Plaza around the fire pit with live music, drink tickets and a chance to meet some of the talented artists themselves.

“We are thrilled to share these one-of-a-kind art pieces with the community and invite everyone to come meet the artists, enjoy live music and celebrate this exciting installation,” said Mountain Village’s Business Development and Sustainability Director Zoe Dohnal.

Eleven artists were selected out of 49 applications to have their artwork adorn several of the refurbished gondola dining cabins that the Town of Mountain Village and TMVOA installed throughout the Village Center in November of 2020.

Telluride Arts facilitated the open artist call in summer 2021, and the artists were selected by a committee of representatives from the Town, Telluride Arts, TMVOA and artists in the community.

The selected artists for the installation are: Abby J. Fox, Alexis Zambrano, Christopher Warren, Emily Ballou, Emma Gerona, Margaret Rinkevich, Robin Arthur, Rosa Cruz, Shannon Richardson, Sherwood Smith and William Frownfelter. “We are so excited about this fun collaboration with the Town of Mountain Village and TMVOA!” said Telluride Arts Executive Director Kate Jones. “We just love the concept of featuring artists on the gondola cabins. The gondolas offer a very unique canvas that provides a great opportunity for artists to get creative and for lots of public enjoyment.”

In addition to adorning a gondola cabin, each artist’s work is featured in a kids coloring book that celebrates the Art Behind The Cabins. This coloring book will be available for free during the event.

“I am especially excited about the coloring book that accompanies the project, Jones added. “It will be printed in both English and Spanish and give kids information about each artist, and an invitation to create their own cabin artwork!”

The Cabins at Mountain Village were conceived to offer private dining cabins to visitors during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet were designed to outlive the pandemic and will continue to be a fixture throughout the plazas of the Village Center.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the response from the community and beyond to The Cabins,” Dohnal said. “I’m so proud of how the Town and TMVOA teamed together to provide these dining cabins to support our restaurants during the height of the pandemic, and it’s so exciting to see them continue to serve the community and now feature this unique public art exhibit.”

All 11 cabins will be in Heritage Plaza for the event, and then will be placed throughout Heritage, Village Pond, Reflection and Sunset plazas for the duration of the winter.
