Comprehensive Plan updates: next steps in the amendment process

The Town of Mountain Village and its consultants, MIG, are in the home stretch of the 2011 Comprehensive Plan amendment process and invite the public to learn more about the proposed amendments.

On Thursday, October 14, at 4 p.m. the Mountain Village Town Council and Design Review Board members will meet in a joint worksession to review drafts of the proposed amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.

This worksession will be a hybrid in-person and virtual meeting and masks will be required for all in-person attendees. Zoom log-in information and meeting material can be found here.

“We look forward to sharing the MIG team’s data analysis, consolidated community input in this streamlined document with the public,” said Michelle Hayne’s Mountain Village’s Planning and Development Services Director. “MIG has worked hard to include an analysis of our town’s economics. hot beds, housing, grey market and conducted comparative analysis with similar ski areas and communities to inform these amendments.”

Members from MIG, the firm hired to facilitate this year-long process, will be present in-person and on zoom to present an overview of the amendment process. Council and DRB members will be given time to review the proposed changes to the plan in advance and submit topics for discussion prior to the worksession.

The draft amended Comprehensive Plan reflects public comments received throughout the entire process gathered through the community survey (conducted in March), stakeholder interviews, comments from staff, Council and DRB members and the open house held in August.

“This worksession provides an opportunity for Council and DRB members to give feedback on and ask questions about the draft amended Comprehensive Plan before the formal public review period begins,” said Elly Schaefer, Project Manager with MIG.

The public is welcome to attend or tune into the worksession, and public comment is scheduled for the end of the worksession. Public comment will be limited to 20 minutes on the agenda, and please know that written public comments are encouraged for this project.

After the worksession, a revised draft will be available online and at Town Hall for public review for three weeks from October 28 through November 18.

Written comments on the draft may be submitted via email to or via the public comment form on the project’s dedicated webpage at townofmountainvillage.com/comp-plan.

“The public review period is the last major opportunity for the community to weigh in on the Comprehensive Plan amendment, and we encourage anyone interested to review the draft amended Comprehensive Plan and submit comments during this time period,” Schaefer said.

Following this public review period, staff and MIG’s team will incorporate any edits as appropriate and the final Amended Comprehensive Plan is set to be heard by Town Council on Jan 20 for potential adoption, with the possibility of a second hearing in February 2022.

The public is invited to attend all hearings virtually or in person, and meeting info and Zoom log-in information will be available once meeting material is posted on the Mountain Village Town Council webpage. Meeting material is posted to the Town’s website the Friday before each meeting and will be publicly noticed per Town policy.
