Mountain Munchkins Director Dawn Katz stepping down, Assistant Director Chambers Squier to take over

The Town of Mountain Village, which owns and operates Mountain Munchkins, a licensed infant, toddler and preschool center, is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Director of Childcare Chambers Squier.

Current Director of Childcare Dawn Katz is stepping down on May 31, 2023, after nine years in this position and current Assistant Director Chambers Squier is stepping into her role.

“I have been in childcare for over 20 years and just want to spend more time with my daughter before she begins her senior year,” Katz said. “I am so proud of my time in the early childhood community. The Munchkins staff has supported so many children in our area, which means so much to me.”

Established in 1996, Mountain Munchkins is a licensed infant, toddler and preschool center located at Village Court Apartments in Mountain Village. As a year-round program, it primarily provides childcare service to families who work in the Mountain Village and Telluride region and is the only infant childcare center in San Miguel County at this time.

“Chambers and I have worked together here for six years and I couldn’t think of a better person to take the reins. She will surely do great things,” Katz added.

Squier originally moved to the area over six years ago to be closer to family and took a summer position at Munchkins. Two years ago she became the assistant director of Mountain Munchkins.

“I quickly fell in love with my job and we have been here ever since,” Squier added. “I am very excited to be taking on this role! I love our kiddos and their families and thanks to my mentor, boss and friend Dawn, I am proud to be able to continue to provide high-quality childcare to Mountain Village and the Telluride region!”

She and her husband are in the process of building a home Down Valley and just welcomed their first baby boy in February.

“We are incredibly grateful for Dawn’s years of service to the Town, Munchkins and the hundreds of families whose children have gone through Munchkins during her time,” said Town Manager Paul Wisor. “We could not be more excited for Chambers to be stepping into the Director role. In her time at Munchkins, Chambers has been an invaluable leader who is adored by parents and children alike. We are fortunate to have continuity in leadership at Mountain Munchkins and are confident Chambers will continue to build upon Dawn’s excellent work.”
