Mountain Village announces composting, building energy, solar and irrigation incentives

The Town of Mountain Village is excited to announce the launch of four sustainability programs for 2024. These programs aim to promote renewable energy, improve building efficiency, save water, and encourage composting within the community.

These sustainability programs reflect Mountain Village’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. By participating, residents and businesses can significantly reduce their carbon footprint, save on energy costs, and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable environment.

Solar Energy Incentive Program

The 2024 Solar Energy Incentive Program is now open to all Mountain Village residents looking to install solar arrays on their homes.

This year, the program will offer rebates directly to residents once they install solar arrays on their homes. This year, the Town will not offer a co-op and residents are invited to work directly with solar installers in order to receive a rebate.

Free-market homes are eligible for rebates up to $2,500, and deed-restricted homes up to $5,000. These rebates are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the Town has budgeted $25,000 in funding for this program.

Building Energy Incentive Program

The Building Energy Incentive Program offers property owners rebates of up to $3,000 per year for residential homes and up to $5,000 per year for commercial properties for performing energy audits and implementing at least one energy-efficiency upgrade identified in the audit.

“Residential and commercial buildings make up about 90 percent of Mountain Village's emissions and this program is a critical step in helping reduce those emissions and moving Mountain Village towards our goal of carbon neutrality by 2050,” said Environmental Efficiencies and Grant Coordinator Lauren Kirn.

Composting Incentive Program

Businesses and HOAs located in Mountain Village who are interested in composting, may now receive a 30 percent rebate on annual composting services.

According to the EPA, properly composted organic material improves soil health, enhances water retention, supports native plants, and reduces the need for fertilizers and pesticides.

In order to participate in the program, businesses and HOAs must submit a rebate application and associated invoices for composting service pick-up and provide proof of a one-year contract with a composting provider.

Smart Irrigation Controls & Irrigation Assessments

Now in its third year, the Smart Irrigation Controls and Assessment Incentive is back offering residents and businesses rebates if they perform an irrigation assessment and install a smart irrigation controller(s).

Qualifying properties can request an irrigation system assessment from landscaping or irrigation companies and receive up to a $300 rebate for completing the assessment. The program's goal is to incentivize properties to evaluate their irrigation systems for inefficiencies and potential leaks and provide property owners with a list of solutions to address these issues.

The Town is also offering free 8-zone and 16-zone Rachio controllers to Town of Mountain Village water customers. Property owners who purchase their own approved smart irrigation controller will receive up to a $500 rebate.
