Mountain Village seeking community input on Comprehensive Plan amendment process

As the Town of Mountain Village undergoes an amendment to its 2011 Comprehensive Plan, a survey to gather community input has been created. We are asking the Mountain Village community to share their feedback to help us in this process.

The deadline to share your input on the future of Mountain Village is March 31, 2021. The survey is limited to one response per IP address. The survey can be found online at bit.ly/MV_CPA.

The Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2011, was written to be a 30-year roadmap envisioning the future use and needs of the community. Mountain Village Town Council's goal at the time was to encourage future development while controlling growth within reasonable boundaries.

However, since its adoption, Town Council and the community have noted that the plan is overly prescriptive and complicated in certain respects. This amendment process to update the Comprehensive Plan to make it more flexible.

“Since its drafting and adoption in 2011, the Comprehensive Plan has envisioned and guided the Town’s development and growth,” said Mayor Laila Benitez. “In the ten years since its inception, our community has evolved and grown, as have our needs and priorities.

“Updating the Comprehensive Plan - our Town’s future growth, goals, and vision - begins with hearing from our residents, property owners, and businesses. Please help us by filling out the survey and sharing your thoughts and hopes for our Village.”

The amendment process is being led by MIG, a national firm with extensive experience developing and updating comprehensive plans for resort communities.

MIG is working with Town staff to gather input from the community, businesses, key stakeholders, the Mountain Village Design Review Board and Town Council via virtual public forums, interviews and public meetings. MIG will present an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan for Town Council consideration for adoption and potential approval this summer.

MIG will host work sessions at the upcoming Town Council and Design Review Board meetings to introduce both groups to the amendment process and begin to gather input from both Council and DRB.

Those meeting dates are:

Zoom meeting log-in for both meetings will be posted on the dedicated project website. To take the survey, learn more about the process and sign up for dedicated newsletters, visit our dedicated webpage.
