Mountain Village Town Council appoints Huascar E. Gomez to fill seat left vacant by Patrick Berry’s resignation

On Thursday, November 16, the Mountain Village Town Council appointed Huascar E. Gomez (Rick) to fill the seat left vacant by Patrick Berry’s recent resignation from Town Council.

Gomez will be sworn in during a special meeting on Thursday, November 30 to serve the remaining two-year term that Berry was elected to serve in July 2021. Berry resigned from Council on October 16 after accepting a new job opportunity with the La Plata Electric Association in Durango.

Mountain Village residents Heather Knox and Joanne Young also expressed interest in the open seat. Gomez was selected by Council in a four to two vote cast by Town Council members.

Earlier in 2023, Gomez was one of 10 candidates running for four seats on Town Council on June 27, 2023. Gomez came in fifth with 147 votes during this election.

“Rick’s enthusiasm for service, combined with his experience in the local lodging industry, will add great value to the Mountain Village Town Council,” said Mountain Village Mayor Marti Prohaska. “He will be a tremendous asset to the community and I look forward to working with him.”
