Tesla Supercharger station opens in Mountain Village's Gondola Parking Garage

The Town of Mountain Village is pleased to announce the activation of the region’s second Tesla Supercharger Station.

The new station, featuring eight Supercharger posts, is located on level three of the Gondola Parking Garage and is now officially open to the public. Each of the chargers, entirely funded by the nation’s leading manufacturer of electric vehicles (EV), Tesla, can provide 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

The Town began working with Tesla on this project in June of 2017 and construction began in June of 2021. The station was originally scheduled to open by Labor Day, but supply chain issues delayed the opening.

“Though the global supply chain issues affected us here locally, we are thrilled to finally have this supercharger station installed and ready for the public to use,” said Transit & Recreation Director Jim Loebe.

There are already a handful of Destination Tesla chargers at Mountain Village hotels, the Supercharger is set up to charge at a much faster rate than the Destination chargers.

Now that the station is open, it is listed on Tesla’s in-car directory for drivers to navigate to when they need to charge their vehicles.

“The location of the station in Gondola Parking Garage couldn’t be more perfect. We invite Tesla drivers to plug their car in, enjoy our Village Market and other amenities and businesses in Mountain Village while it charges,” Loebe said.

While this new Supercharger station will benefit only Tesla drivers at this time, the Town has plans to expand its charging offerings to drivers of all EV brands in the coming year with new charging stations being developed in the Heritage Parking Garage and Meadows Parking Lot. The Town was just awarded grant funding for these two projects through the Colorado Energy Office Charge Ahead Colorado program. Stay tuned for more information about that work in the future.

Additionally, the town has two standard charging units for EVs on level two of the Gondola Parking Garage.

“The Town is thrilled to be building more infrastructure to support electric vehicles as this is a huge step in reaching our goal of carbon neutrality by 2050,” said Business Development and Sustainability Director Zoe Dohnal.
