Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association (TMVOA) and John Buxman, owner of The Village Market, are excited to announce the new flagship market in Mountain Village will open this coming Thursday, May 21.
The new market includes a complete renovation of the space, re-design, and layout for improved product display and customer circulation, all new modern and energy-efficient equipment, a large full-service deli department, and an expanded building footprint that houses an indoor seating area. Combined with the newly refined interior, flooring, and overall decor, everything is designed to make for a pleasurable shopping experience (view preview pics).
Customers will likely first notice the expansive windows that now line the front of the market that provides for more natural light and a more modern look to the building’s exterior. Upon entering the market, you are greeted by a large open area for fresh and local produce that is surrounded by an expanded deli department, sushi service counter, freshly packaged meats and a wide variety of convenient food and drinks for those wanting quick on-the-go options.
John says he is especially proud of the full-service meat and seafood department, along with the commercial kitchen and deli that is state of the art. The butcher and seafood managers will assist customers with quality cut-to-order meats, a variety of seafood and shellfish and wide assortment of Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses. Every day the deli will have freshly prepared foods, including grilled salmon, chicken, and flank steak, along with 20 freshly made salads and grilled vegetables ready for lunch, dinner, and take-out.
For those that have a taste for cheese, a deli island will have more than 200 specialty cheeses. And those looking for baked items and sweets, you will be pleased to see a bakery case filled with daily baked doughnuts, muffins, and breads.
Stepping toward the center of the store, you will notice spacious aisles and with the high-ceilings and significantly more natural light being let in from the large windows, there is a new open and airy feeling. It is nice be able to walk down the aisles and now see the mountains and blue sky from inside the market. Turning to the products on the shelves, you will see many new specialty items that were previously not available to shoppers in Mountain Village.
Near the front of the market, along the new floor-to-ceiling windows are several shorter, easy to shop aisles for health and beauty products. This section includes a wide variety of vitamins and supplements, refrigerated probiotics, medicines and heath care items, make-up, and even a baby section.
At the rear of the store you will find the new refrigerated sections for items like milk, dairy and eggs, and a plentiful frozen section for pizzas, meals, ice cream and desserts.
Given the current county orders and restrictions on self-service food and indoor dining, a few conveniences will unfortunately not be available to shoppers until restrictions are lifted. This includes the soup and salad bar, as well as hot and cold food bar. Additionally, the indoor seating area which includes a large screen TV, gas fireplace for colder days, and fast complementary wifi will be roped-off until county and state orders are lifted. Finally, the bulk food section that will supply 50 unique items like granola, oats, proteins, and candies will also be available once restrictions are lifted.
There is a lot of excitement in the community about the new market and in welcoming John and The Village Market back to our area. As a reminder, the Buxman family have a long relationship with our region as his father, John Sr. operated the grocery market on Fir and Pacific in Telluride for almost 30 years. Currently, The Village Market operates grocery stores in Edwards, Colorado; Moab, Utah; Ketchum / Sun Valley, Idaho; and Mountain Village as of next Thursday.
Meeting the original opening schedule of Memorial Day weekend during these challenging times required tremendous support and hard work from many of our community partners. Trifecta Construction had crews working around the clock, the Town of Mountain Village building and planning department’s ability to help navigate the process from start to finish was invaluable, and San Miguel County working with TMVOA and the Town of Mountain Village to allow this essential project to continue during restrictions was critical to our ability to open on schedule. We are extremely thankful to those listed above and the many others not named here that came together to make this project a reality for our community.
TMVOA looks forward to the opening of The Village Market on Thursday, May 21. The market will be open 7-days a week from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. TMVOA has worked very closely with John to ensure the market meets the high expectations of our members and guests for high-quality foods and products, a wide selection of products and brands, competitive prices, and exceptional service.
Please visit The Village Market and support our community’s newest business and enjoy an enhanced shopping experience in Mountain Village. The market’s staff will be carefully following Public Health orders and taking every precaution in the promotion of good public health.
