Town Council to consider first reading of a revised ordinance proposing special election

At its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, June 20, the Mountain Village Town Council will consider a first reading of a revised ordinance calling for a special election to ask voters five questions that could amend the Town Charter.

The ordinance consideration comes after Town Council held a special worksession on June 12 to hear from the community and further discuss the proposed charter amendments Council first considered in March 2024.

The new ordinance includes the following five charter amendments:

  1. Allowing property owners holding property in LLCs or trusts to vote like other non-resident property owners
  2. Moving the regular election from the last Tuesday in June to the last Tuesday in July
  3. Clarifying the effective dates of ordinances
  4. Allowing publication of ordinances via the Town website rather than by newspaper
  5. Reconciling a conflict between the Town Code and the Charter regarding DRB terms

The ordinance offers two potential dates for Council to consider setting the special election date: October 1 or December 10.

The item is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.
