Village Court Apartments bus stop and sidewalk project under construction
The Town of Mountain Village is constructing a bus shelter at Village Court Apartments (VCA) thanks in part to state grants. The project also includes sidewalk connections from the existing sidewalk outside of the VCA Main Office to the new bus shelter.
The new bus shelter will be located at the corner of Mountain Village Boulevard and the entrance to VCA near the firehouse and municipal building.
The Town received grant funding through the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) to complete construction.
Previously, riders would wait for the bus at the grassy area in the same location in all weather conditions. Additionally, a sidewalk from VCA up to Mountain Village Boulevard does not exist, so transit riders and residents had to walk along the busy roadway to access the bus, recreational amenities and other services.
“We are excited to offer this much-needed bus facility and sidewalk connectivity,” said Mountain Village’s Public Works Director Scott Pittenger. “We hope these safety, accessibility and connectivity improvements will encourage more multimodal and public transit use within Mountain Village and the greater region.”
This bus stop serves the school district, San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART), and the local Mountain Village bus system. The bus stop improvements will include a bus pull-out so traffic along Mountain Village Boulevard can continue during loading and unloading.
Construction is expected to be completed in March 2025.
