Zipcar launches car-sharing program in Mountain Village
The Town of Mountain Village and Telluride Ski & Golf are pleased to announce the launch of the Zipcar car-sharing program for Mountain Village residents and guests.
Zipcar offers convenient 24/7 access to cars by the hour or the day with upfront pricing. Gas, insurance options, dedicated parking, maintenance, roadside service and 180 miles are included in a Zipcar membership.
There are eight total Zipcars available in Mountain Village: four at Big Billie’s Apartments and four at the Gondola Parking Garage. There are 2023 Toyota 4Runners.
Zipcar was launched for Town and TSG employees and Village Court Apartment residents in December 2023, and this summer Town Council agreed to commit $25,000 to expand it to the broader community.
“The Town is excited to partner with TSG to bring Zipcar to our region,” said Mountain Village’s Sustainability and Grant Coordinator Lauren Kirn. “Car sharing offers a convenient, affordable option for our residents and visitors to run errands, attend appointments, and explore our beautiful region. Zipcar offers a solution to our parking constraints and is one of many steps the Town is taking to address these challenges.”
Participants can rent a Zipcar at $12 per hour (or $83.50 for the day) with gas included through a provided gas card. Zipcar's annual membership is just $35, and it is an excellent option for those who need access to a car but don’t want the burden of owning a vehicle.
TSG and Town employees, along with residents of Village Court Apartments, receive free annual memberships.
“Our goal with this partnership was to ease the burden of owning a car for our seasonal employees,” said Telluride Ski Resort Spokesperson Steve Swenson. “It provides a lot of flexibility and is a productive and affordable step toward solving our parking issues here.”
With the cost of car ownership on the rise, Zipcar estimates it saves its average member more than $1,000 monthly on transportation costs.
