Irrigation

When spring rolls around, you’ll want to make certain your irrigation system is running smoothly.

Tips

  1. A rain gauge/controller measures the amount of rainfall at any given time and will shut your system off when there is sufficient moisture. Utilizing this management tool will help conserve water and decrease your water bill. Contact the public works team to obtain more information about this device.
  2. An irrigation system that isn’t monitored or managed may use more water than what is necessary to keep your landscape green and healthy. Your system should be checked regularly to ensure its operating the way it was originally intended.
  3. The best time to water your landscape is in the early morning or evening; this helps reduce the loss of evaporation.

Winter Irrigation Guidelines

Living in the mountains translates to freezing temperatures in the winter. To protect your irrigation system and prevent leaks during the colder months, contact your local landscape or sprinkler contractor for assistance. In the meantime, here are some basic guidelines for winterizing your irrigation system. And for those who prefer to winterize their irrigation system themselves, but have questions, feel free to contact us.

  1. Turn off the water to the system.
  2. Turn the irrigation controller off or set to permanent "rain hold".
  3. Turn each of the valves on to release pressure in the pipes
  4. Drain and blow out the irrigation components that might freeze.
