
Skidola, Telluride's Winter Uphill Challenge
What: The Telluride Foundation, in partnership with the Peter Inglis Avlanche Education Fund (PI Avy Fund), is initiating the second Annual Skidola, Telluride’s Winter Uphill race. The Skidola is an open registration uphill on-snow race open from the town of Telluride to the ridge that parallels the gondola. Telluride Foundation is the host and organizer and all proceeds will be donated to the PI Avy Fund to further their mission to create opportunities for avalanche education and backcountry user awareness in the San Juan Mountains. Where: Racers start at the base of the gondola in the town of Telluride and finish at the top of the ridge near lift 7. When: The run will start at 5:30p.m. on Wednesday, March 23rd. Racers ride the gondola back to Telluride or Mountain Village after the race. No downhill traffic will be allowed. Who: Anyone who wants to skin, ski, snowshoe or slog! The inaugural Skidola will have the following categories: • Male, Female, Juniors • Overall Fastest Man & Woman in 2 categories: Category 1: micro spikes & skins Category 2: Skins on Skis • ALL participants must wear snowshoes, micro spikes or skins on their skis Why: The goal of the event is to host a community on-snow race that benefits one of our great nonprofits. The event is put on by the Telluride Foundation in partnership with the PI Avy Fund and Telluride Mountain Club. All proceeds from the event will benefit the PI Avy Fund. Registration: The cost is $50 (before March 3rd and goes up) online and includes race registration, Skidola gift, food & beverage at OAK and a chance to win great prizes.
