What brought you here?
My husband and I built our home in Mountain Village ten years ago, after being frequent visitors to Mountain Village for over 12 years. What drew us here was the gorgeous landscape, easy access to trails, outdoor recreation, but most importantly, the tremendous sense of community.
What motivated you to run for Town Council?
When we first moved to Mountain Village I had the opportunity to work for the Town of Mountain Village in the Administration Department, which allowed me to learn about the internal town operations. This understanding, coupled with my years of experience in the private sector, motivated me to ensure that our local government continues to be responsive, responsible, and respectful of what first brought us here.
Describe one of your goals and objectives for Mountain Village.
It was clear that we needed to develop more effective ways to keep residents, property owners, and businesses updated on town projects and initiatives, as well as soliciting public input in an ongoing and frequent manner. We have now created an engagement plan that addresses the differing communication approaches of our community – including print, email, social media, and the local media.
Along the same lines, we actively work towards increased collaboration with our regional partners, such as the Town of Telluride, TMVOA, San Miguel County, and TSG. We have many long- and short-term goals ahead of us and working together allows us to accomplish these goals in shorter time frames and at reduced financial investment than if we were each going it alone.
What challenges you most about being an elected official?
Balancing the needs of our unique community, made up of full-time residents, seasonal and year-round businesses, and second homeowners, in a remote, mountain environment. We are regularly reminded that although different community members have specific needs, our love of our beautiful village propels us to work together to continually build towards a better community for all.
Name a random fact about yourself.
I have a bit of a crossword puzzle addiction.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love hiking. Regardless of the season, it is a great way to catch up with friends while tiring out our pup, Izzi. I enjoy golf and skiing – more great ways to be outdoors, get a little exercise, and spend time with friends and family.
What is the best way for your constituents to communicate with you?
I appreciate any chance to hear from members of the community out and about town; my cell phone and email are listed above.
