Peter Duprey

Peter Duprey

Position: Council Member

Professional Background/Occupation:

I’m currently semi-retired which prompted our full-time move to Mountain Village 3.5 years ago. Prior to retirement, I was the CEO of two companies in the renewable energy field with revenue in excess of $250 million. I started in renewable energy with General Electric, first as the head of mergers and acquisitions for renewables and then as the head of marketing for GE Wind. Prior to GE, I was the CFO for three companies ranging in size from $15 million to $300 million. I’ve been fortunate to have worked for Fortune 100 companies as well as very early stage venture companies where I learned to manage in unstructured environments. I started my professional career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Rochester, NY, achieving the level of audit manager. I have an MBA from William E. Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester and a BS from Clarkson University and a CPA.

Length of Time as Town Resident:

3.5 years

Previous Political Experience/Specific Qualifications:

While I don’t have any prior political experience per se, I do have significant experience in leading large and small organizations and working in teams to achieve results. I have been on the board of directors of publicly traded companies and was on the Board of the American Wind Energy Association. As I look to the future of Mountain Village, there are going to be a several large financial decisions regarding the wastewater treatment facility, the gondola, affordable housing and other infrastructure projects, which I believe my financial and leadership experience will be very beneficial. Like many resort towns, I believe some of the challenges we are facing today are affordable housing, access to affordable healthcare, local staff retention and ensuring we have the proper infrastructure to support our growing community.

Reasons You Would Like to Serve:

I’m in a new phase of my life where I have more time available and believe I’ve developed many skills that can contribute to the community. Our community is small, although we have some regional political structures that are complex and require leadership and cooperation to ensure Telluride achieves its full potential. I see affordable housing, expansion of the medical center capabilities and investment in infrastructure as the key initiatives facing our community. Longer term the impact of climate change could have a dramatic impact to our lifestyle and further diversifying the economy to smooth out the offseason cycles.

Other Information You Want to Include (family, community involvement, other personal information):

My wife, Kelli and I have lived all over the world and we are enjoying establishing roots in Telluride and contributing to the leadership of the community. Kelli is on the board of San Miguel Resource Center and volunteers on their hotline. We have no kids but an incredible dog – Wrigley … yes Cubs fans. Telluride in an incredible place and we love living in the mountains. I’m a strong believer in sustainable development and feel fortunate to have had an opportunity to make this part of my career for 15 years.
